CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A march will take place in Charlottetown on Saturday under the theme of ending violence against women.
Islanders will once again be joining millions of women, men and gender non-conforming people, young and old, of diverse faiths, differently abled, newcomers and Indigenous in the annual March for Equality, which takes place across the world.
The march begins at noon on Saturday in front of the Coles Building on Grafton Street and end on the second floor of the Confederation Court Mall for some music and chat.
In January 2017, an impromptu march happened in Charlottetown after a simple Facebook post was made to connect Islanders who wanted to gather in support of the Women’s March in Washington. It was held in direct protest to President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
With very little planning, more than 250 people gathered that day.
“Equality is an issue in every part of the world, and Islanders are great to step up and march for those in their community who are treated unequally and unfairly,’’ said Susan Hartley, one of the organizers of the Charlottetown march.
