BONSHAW, P.E.I. - A young man died on the province’s highways late Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Bonshaw, the RCMP confirmed.

The male driver of a small Honda passenger vehicle died at the scene after his vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

Police say the victim was in his mid-20s, but are not releasing his name until next of kin have been notified.

The accident occurred on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Appin Road in Bonshaw at around 4:30 p.m.

A female passenger in the vehicle was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with undetermined injuries.

The RCMP were still at the scene just before 7 p.m. Monday speaking with witnesses to the incident.

Officers said it was still too early to determine a possible cause for the accident. The investigation is ongoing.

Weather conditions were relatively clear at the time of the accident, however the province’s road conditions website listed the Trans-Canada Highway as bare with some moisture present.
