ELDON, P.E.I. - A 35-year-old woman has died after being involved in a head-on accident Monday.

An accident reconstruction team is in the area of Eldon today, piecing together details of the collision.

The team is advising motorists to expect delays along on Route 1, the TransCanada Highway.

Montague RCMP got the call just after 7 p.m. Monday concerning the crash. It happened just past the turnoff to the Point Prim Road and involved a MacInnis Express van and a car.

“We’re going to do our investigation to determine why and how this collision happened,” said RCMP Cpl. Alexis Triantafillou. “The vehicles (hit) head on, so the focus will have to be why.”

The 35-year-old female driver of the car and the 55-year-old man who drove the delivery van were both taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown. The woman was later transported to Halifax where she died from her injuries.
