Police say a driver killed in a highway collision Sunday night in Dundas sped through a stop sign.

RCMP Sgt. Chris Gunn says the 45-year-old driver was doing more than the posted 60-km/h speed limit when he drove a Toyota Solara through the intersection of Route 4 and the Cumberland Road at 10:15 p.m.

“There is no indication that he made any attempt to stop,’’ says Gunn.

The Guardian has learned that the driver was Shawn Scott Campbell of Orwell. According to a death notice, he is the son of Jean Campbell and Wayne Campbell (Sandra), and the father of Jordan Johnston, Avery Campbell and Jude Campbell. Campbell was the brother of Robert (Tracey) MacDonald and Marc Campbell (Natasha).

A passenger in the vehicle, a 53-year-old man from the Stratford area, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

A second car driven by a 17-year-old Kings County girl struck the Solara on the driver’s side. The teen was taken to hospital with minor injuries and released Monday morning.

Gunn says the passenger who was riding with the man killed in the collision was not offering many details to police due to his medical condition.

“It’s going to be under investigation for awhile,’’ he says.

Funeral arrangements for Campbell begin with visitation at Hillsboro Funeral Home in Stratford on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Joachim's Church in Vernon River on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
