MONTAGUE, P.E.I. - RCMP in Kings County have arrested and charged two men and one woman in connection with a string of vehicle thefts over the past few months.

Police received six reports of stolen vehicles and numerous thefts from unlocked vehicles since Nov. 12, 2018. Since the first complaint, officers have been gathering evidence toward solving the investigations.

Late Thursday, Jan. 17, officers arrested two people of interest and the following day recovered the two outstanding stolen vehicles linked to the two people in custody.

A third person was arrested in the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 19 in relation to the same crimes. All three were brought before a Justice of Peace in Georgetown and were held in custody. They were set to appear in provincial court Monday.

A 20 year-old man from the Montague area is in custody facing 34 charges, including six counts of theft of motor vehicle, 10 counts of driving while prohibited, 13 counts of breach of probation, two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, two counts of possession stolen property and one count of flight from police.

A 22-year-old Charlottetown man faces two counts of theft of motor vehicle, seven counts of breach of probation and a single count of possession of stolen property under $5,000.

An 18-year-old woman from Charlottetown faces one count of theft of a motor vehicle, three counts of breach of probation, two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000, and two other offences under Youth Justice Act.

An investigation into additional charges is ongoing.

With these arrests, Kings District RCMP once again remind the public to remove any valuables and to always lock car doors.
