Another blast of winter is expected to hit P.E.I. on Saturday prompting Environment Canada to issue a snow squall watch.

“Persistent snow squalls are expected to develop,” Environment Canada said in a statement issued Friday. “Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

”

Strong and cold northwest winds blowing over relatively warm gulf waters are being blamed for the snow squalls. Conditions are expected to persist until Sunday morning.

“Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common.”
