CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A Crapaud man who sent a woman hundreds of unwanted text messages was sentenced recently to 30 days in jail.
Benjamin Campbell, 28, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to harassment.
The court heard the woman called the RCMP in July to complain that Campbell was repeatedly texting her.
Despite a warning from the RCMP for him to stop, Campbell continued to send the woman text messages.
The victim provided police printouts of 300 messages and said there were almost 200 more on her phone.
Along with the jail time, which Campbell will serve on weekends, he will also be on probation for 18 months, during which time he is banned from contacting the victim unless his probation officer consents.
Campbell is banned from going within 500 metres of the woman’s home and he must write her an apology letter.
He is also under a weapons prohibition for 10 years.
