CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A P.E.I. woman with multiple prior drunk driving convictions was sentenced recently to 50 days in jail for her latest offence.
Rose Marie Roberts appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to impaired driving.
Before sentencing Roberts, Orr reviewed the facts of the case, saying a witness boxed in Roberts’s vehicle and took her keys from her.
Roberts had a second set of keys and tried to leave before the witness took those from her, too.
When the police arrived, Roberts said she had been swerving on the road because she was texting and had two glasses of wine.
Orr said it was a matter of great concern that Roberts hasn’t had a drivers licence since 1996, but that hasn’t stopped her from being on the road.
A review of her record showed Roberts had prior convictions for impaired driving, driving while disqualified and multiple counts of driving while her licence was suspended.
Roberts will be on probation for three years and must perform 100 hours of community service or pay $10 per hour not completed.
She is banned from driving any motorized vehicle during the probation and will be on a separate driving prohibition under the Criminal Code of Canada for three years.
