HALIFAX — A student was taken to hospital with minor injuries Wednesday after a Halifax school bus veered into a ditch.
School officials say the bus was carrying 11 students to Herring Cove Junior High at about 8:05 a.m. when it was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Old Sambro Road.
Pictures on news sites showed a bus on its side in a ditch near the road, with a tilted power line leaning on top of it.
Doug Hadley of the Halifax Regional Centre for Education says paramedics assessed the students, and took one student to hospital with injuries that "did not appear serious."
The other 10 students on bus were either released to their parents or taken to school on another bus after their parents were informed about what had happened.
Halifax police shut down Old Sambro Road for several hours but it was reopened shortly after noon.
The crash appears to be linked to a power outage in the area.
