SYDNEY, N.S. — A shark studying expedition off Cape Breton Island has already tagged its second great white shark.
The Ocearch research team tagged ‘Murdoch,’ a 3.68 metre male white shark, on Tuesday as part of their week long search of local waters.
Murdoch, according to Ocearch, is a name with Gaelic roots and means ‘of the sea.’
Over the weekend Sydney, a 3.7 metre mature male, was tagged near Main-a-Dieu,to become the first-ever white shark tagged near Cape Breton.
A third white shark estimated to be five metres in length was also located but swam away before it could be tagged.
Like other sharks tagged before him Murdock the shark has a Twitter account (@MurdochtheShark) which will notify those following on social media of its movements.

The account states that underwater iPhone is attached to Murdoch to share his adventures.
Ocearch is scheduled to be in Cape Breton until Thursday. They plan to wrap the expedition near West Ironbound Island south of Lunenburg, where Ocearch tagged six great whites last year.
The Cape Breton Post is set to board the research vessel on Tuesday to document a portion of their work.
