UPDATE: Summerside man arrested on warrant, charged with robbery and assault

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Police arrested a 22-year-old Summerside man Wednesday on robbery and assault charges shortly after issuing a news release asking for information leading to his capture. 

Cole Edward Hearn of Summerside is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in relation to an incident at a hotel in the city on Nov. 4.

He is also charged with robbery and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose stemming from a second incident at a convenience store on Nov. 30.

Summerside Police Services issued a news release just before 3 p.m. asking for the public's help in locating hearn. An hour later, they issued a second release saying Hearn had been arrested at 3:20 p.m. 

The first incident occurred at a local motel where another Summerside man was assaulted with a weapon.

Police were made aware of the incident and have been investigating since receiving the complaint and anticipate laying further charges.

Police allege all of the parties involved are known to each another and that this was not a random event.

Hearn is also charged with a robbery that occurred just before 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 30 where a Summerside man was assaulted and robbed shortly after leaving a Granville Street convenience store.

The victim reported the incident to police and Hearn was identified as a suspect during the investigation.

The victim received non-life-threatening injuries during the alleged robbery.
