GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. fisher has been fined $5,300 for possessing undersized lobster.
Karen Mae Matheson was fined $100 for each of the 53 lobsters she had that were all less than the legal 74 ml.
Matheson, who has been fishing for 30 years, is also suspended from fishing for the first four days of the 2021 lobster fishing season.
“This is a major issue – a conservation issue,’’ Chief Judge Nancy Orr told the woman in provincial court.
Matheson was charged after her catch was inspected in Kings County on June 18 by a fishery officer.
