SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A 37-year-old Summerside man is facing a charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after an incident Friday, March 23 just before 10:30 p.m.
A fully marked police vehicle was travelling north on South Drive when it was passed, in a no passing zone, by a vehicle travelling at a very high rate of speed.
The vehicle continued travelling north, in the south bound lane, causing vehicles travelling in both directions to pull off the roadway to get out of its path.
The suspect vehicle then attempted to make a west bound turn onto Bayview Drive, but the driver lost control and the vehicle hit a snowbank where it became stuck.
Police were on the scene within seconds and immediately took the driver into custody.
The driver was given a roadside screening device test at the scene which resulted in his license being suspended for seven days.
The vehicle has also been impounded for six months.
