Summerside man charged after police seize more than a kilo of meth during traffic stop

BORDEN-CARLETON, P.E.I. — A 39-year-old Summerside man faces charges after police conducted a targeted traffic stop in Borden-Carleton on Sunday, Jan. 10.

The Prince District JFO drug unit, which is comprised of RCMP, Summerside and Kensington police officers, assisted by RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime officers, conducted the stop. As a result, they seized a half pound (eight ounces) of crystal methamphetamine, two pounds of methamphetamine pills, an ounce of cocaine, 4.5 ounces of cannabis resin and more than $2,500 in cash.

Ryan Gallant was arrested during this stop and has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of selling cannabis and breach of probation.

Gallant is currently on probation for a previous possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine conviction and will be appearing in provincial court on Jan. 11.

A 38-year-old Summerside man was also arrested at the time and was subsequently released.

The investigation into this matter is still ongoing.
