SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Summerside city council voted Monday night to re-allocate some of its 2020/2021 direct stream Gas Tax funding away from one project and into several others.
Council is required by the province to provide a list of future projects it intends to spend its Gas Tax allocation on.
The city had previously said that its funding for this year, $1,356,490, would be spent on the Central Street and Pope Road intersection realignment.
However, council voted Monday night to instead spend that money on five other projects, including $590,000 on road paving, $250,000 on sewer projects, $216,490 on sidewalks, $200,000 on the intersection of Greenwood Drive and Pope Road and $100,000 on the intersection of Granville Street and Walker Avenue.
Council said the Pope Road and Granville Street intersection is still a priority, and funding has been allocated in the recent budget to advance the project, but this year`s gas tax will be spend elsewhere.
