A book studying L.M. Montgomery’s relationship with nature has been nominated for a prestigious national prize.
“L.M Montgomery and the Matter of Nature(s)” has been short-listed for the Association of Canadian and Quebec Literatures’ (ACQL) annual prize for literary criticism, the Gabrielle Roy Prize.
The book, a critical study of Montgomery’s relationship to the material world and the revealing interconnections between nature and culture, was co-edited by Jean Mitchell, an associate professor of anthropology UPEI, and Rita Bode of Trent University.
Every year, the ACQL recognizes two books, one in English and one in French, with the award.
The winner of the 2018 Gabrielle Roy Prize will be announced at the annual Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, held next month in Vancouver, B.C.
According to the publisher McGill-Queen’s University Press, the book draws on a wide range of Montgomery’s novels as well as her journals to show ideas that are integral to Montgomery’s vision and literary legacy.
