SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A 20-year-old Prince County man was in court recently on charges of sexual assault.

The man was charged with multiple sexual offences, including incest. Due to a publication ban, The Guardian is not naming the man to protect the identity of the victim, who was younger than 16 at the time of the offences.

The man has been held in jail on remand on two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual touching, two counts of invitation to sexual touching and incest for having sexual intercourse with a blood relation. The charges are from the summer of 2019.

He pleaded guilty to sexual assault and incest; the other charges were stayed.

The man was sentenced to five years in prison for incest and two years, to be served concurrently, for sexual assault. He will be under a weapons ban for life, he must submit his DNA to the national database, his name will be in the sex offender registry and he may not be near people under 16 years old.

With credit for time served, the man will serve three years and 140 days in a federal penitentiary.

In a separate matter, he was sentenced to 45 days, to be served concurrently, on one count of assault in Milton Station.
