CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — “Sadie off the Rails”, starring Shawna Van Omme, Olivia Barnes and Nick Whelan, is on stage tonight in the Katherine Hughes Memorial Hall of the Irish Cultural Centre, 582 North River Road.

There will be a 50/50 draw during the evening at the air-conditioned hall, and a light lunch will be served at the end of the event. Doors open at 6:45 p.m., and the show starts at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $12 at the door, with children 12 and under, $5. Everyone is welcome. For information call 902-213-3924.

This musical in one act was inspired by the true story of Miss Sadie Calhoun, a vaudeville stage and moving pictures star who visited P.E.I. in the early 1900s and performed hit shows to sold-out houses. Her return to the Island is marred by the reality that the place where she was booked, the Charlottetown Opera House, has burned down.

Always the trooper and never wanting to disappoint her fans, Sadie hops on the P.E.I. Railway for a concert tour stopping at towns from up west to down east. The musical was written by Diane Barnes and Wade Lynch and is directed by Marlane O’Brien.

City (Toronto) and continues to train and workshop new musicals in Toronto.
