Maritimers pledged a record-breaking $6.7 million during the 35th IWK Telethon for Children this past weekend.

The live broadcast took place from the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, N.S., as well as remote locations in Sydney, N.S.; Saint John, N.B., and Charlottetown.

Jennifer Gillivan, president and CEO of the IWK Foundation, said they are grateful to every donor and volunteer.

The telethon is the hospital’s largest annual fundraiser, supporting the most urgent priority needs of the IWK Health Centre.

This year, donors to the telethon purchased pieces of equipment that included new smart beds for the inpatient unit. Equipped with intuitive advanced technology, focusing on patient safety, nursing safety and ease of use, these beds can send alarms and messages wirelessly to the existing IWK monitoring system and nurses’ mobile devices.

Donations can still be made to the foundation by calling 1-800-595-2266 or by visiting iwkfoundation.org.
