A Prince County man was in court recently after he fled police while on his way to help a friend.

Christopher McKenna, 33, pleaded guilty to flight from police, as well as two other charges.

On Sept. 5, 2019, police on patrol in Middleton saw a truck pass in a no-passing zone. When officers tried to pull him over, he didn’t stop, instead, he waved out the window.

Police followed him to his destination and found him lying on the ground with his hands behind his back.

He said he couldn’t stop, he was on his way to help a friend.

The other charges stem from unwanted phone and text contact with a former friend.

Defence attorney Trish Cheverie said mental health issues are a significant part of these events. McKenna’s mental health has deteriorated since his grandmother died six years ago.

Judge Krista MacKay handed McKenna a suspended sentence, he’ll be on probation for 18 months and is under a 12-month driving prohibition.
