The P.E.I. Photo Club will hold its 37th annual print show at the Gallery@ The Guild in Charlottetown, June 12-23.

is invited to attend the opening reception on June 12 beginning at 7 p.m.

The theme of this year’s show is “Through My Mind’s Eye”. The images won’t be grouped according to categories such as landscapes, people and nature as they have had been in years past. Rather, exhibition spaces will be dedicated to the photographers who will be showcasing their work.

“The annual photo show is evolving,” says club president Paul Vreeland. “Last year’s show was a first in that it wasn’t a competition with judges and prizes. We wanted it to reflect who we are as a community of photographers. This year, we hope that each member’s collection will say something about the photographer and give more credit to him or her, rather than to a singular, prize-winning photo. The show also encourages us to think in terms of working on creative projects.”

Over 15 photographers have embraced this year’s challenge, each submitting a selection of six images for display.

“I am very excited about this year’s show,” says Lauriena Clements, chairwoman of the photo show committee.

“We are really focusing on the individual photographers. By removing the categories, we have given the artists the freedom to showcase work that really speaks to them. And the variety of images and talent of the photographers this year is amazing."

Everyone is invited to visit the show. It will be open until June 23 during gallery hours, which are Monday to Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. and one hour before showtimes on The Guild stage.
