GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A 25-year-old Murray Harbour man was sentenced recently to five days in jail for breaking his former partner’s cell phone during a heated dispute.

Kyle Steven MacKay pleaded guilty to committing damage to property when the victim visited him with the couple’s child.

A dispute ensued when MacKay told the victim he did not want her to leave with the child when she was ready to go. During the argument, he grabbed the woman’s phone and threw it to the floor.

MacKay will serve 18 months on probation and was ordered to pay $803.85 in restitution for the broken phone to his former partner. He must also write her a letter of apology.

MacKay was issued a $100 victim of crime surcharge as well.

He may not have any contact with the victim unless written permission is granted by his probation officer or through legal counsel.
