P.E.I. couple prank their way through coronavirus isolation

Although today is typically a day set aside for fooling people, married couple Tracey Warren and Chris Wallace pulled pranks on each other every day for a week in March while they were spending time indoors because of the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic.

It started as a playful prank when Tracey Warren called her husband’s cellphone from across the room to make him get up off the couch.

Then the couple took it up a notch.

Warren and her husband, Chris Wallace, spent seven days in March pulling pranks on each other that included putting vinegar in his water bottle, replacing his deodorant with ricotta cheese and stretching cling wrap over the toilet.

“It just started innocently,” Warren said.

That first prank came on a day when Warren said she was feeling mischievous and called Wallace’s cellphone from across the room to make him get up after he had settled in on the couch.

She posted the prank on Facebook and referred to the isolation they were dealing with due to social distancing during the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic. Then Wallace responded that he was going to get her back.

So things wouldn’t get out of hand, the couple set ground rules for any further pranks.

“We agreed we wanted to keep it clean,” Warren said.

After the post on Facebook, some of their friends started to weigh in, giving suggestions for pranks to pull on each other, although Warren said some of them, like putting dye in the showerhead, went a bit too far.

“We just wanted some simple stuff to kind of keep it light and keep it fun.”

Warren said there were a couple of moments when either of them thought the other might have gone too far, although she didn’t elaborate on one prank in particular.

“The Saran Wrap on the toilet was not pleasant,” she said.

After developing a bit of a following on Facebook, Warren said people would tell them it was helping provide some levity and something positive during a difficult time.

“We just found something that created a bit of fun and we enjoyed sharing it. People had such a good laugh.”

Wallace, who is still working some days, agreed, saying the pranks were a lot of fun and helped the time go by.

“It kept you on your toes every day, too,” he said.

With his wife sharing the pranks online, Wallace said he was surprised how many people wanted them to keep going.

“Who’s used to being locked in a house for two weeks,” he said.

Once they decided to bring their pranks to an end, Warren said the couple asked people to vote on who did the best.

She was the winner.

“He was a close second,” Warren said.

Although Warren said March 27 was the last prank, Wallace wasn’t convinced it was completely over yet.

“I don’t know about her but I’ve got one in my back pocket that I’ll let her know about whenever it happens,” he said.
