TRURO, N.S. — Online counselling is available through the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education for those grieving the death of Emily Tuck.

Emily, 17, was a student at the Cobequid Educational Centre in Truro before being gunned down earlier this week.

“It is with utter sadness that we share the loss of one of our students in this past weekend’s tragedy,” said Gary Adams, the centre’s regional executive director of Education.

“Emily Tuck was a Grade 12 student at CEC. Emily was an intelligent, energetic, talented and beautifully unique student. We share our deepest condolences for Emily’s family, friends, and all who knew her," he said.

“It is hard to believe the amount of pain and grief caused by this event. Again, I would like to extend my sincere sympathy for our staff members and their families who are mourning their loved ones, friends, neighbours, and community members.”

During these difficult times, Adams said, it is important to seek support from any who need it. Employee and Family Assistant Programs (EFAP) are available to support staff and their families. Teachers and administrators can access the NSTU Resilience Program online at www.myresilence.com or by calling 1-877-955-6788. Non-teaching staff can access their EFAP online at www.workhealthlife.com or by calling 1-877-338-0275. Non-Teaching EFAP has opened a crisis support line at 1-844-751-2133, which can be accessed by casual employees who require support at this time.

“As this has been an extremely emotional week, I encourage you to check in on your colleagues, talk about your feelings with each other and please take care of yourself,” he said.
