SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The city's upcoming business park, which has been dubbed the Summerside Business Commons, is designing its first building and looking for a bioscience company to move into it.

Coun. Brian McFeely shared the update during a recent Summerside council meeting at city hall. The city's economic development department partnered with the P.E.I. BioAlliance to find a tenant for the inaugural building of its 14-acre park, located off Greenwood Drive.

"We've been vetting and qualifying various bioscience-related companies to locate within the park," McFeely said in a report.

The city's goal is to bring more companies into Summerside and boost jobs, so securing a bioscience company would be a key move, McFeely said.

Construction on the 18,000 square-foot building, which would allow for multiple tenants, is expected to begin once a design is finalized early next year and be finished in 2022.
