Three areas have been selected for Summerside's 3D crosswalk project.

The topic was discussed during the city's committee meeting on June 2, held via video conference.

Council approved three crosswalks – which will be painted to look as if they're hovering off the ground in order to slow down drivers.

They will appear in the following areas:

  • Central Street (near Leger Park);
  • somewhere along MacEwen Road;
  • somewhere along Greenwood Drive or South Drive (near the Confederation Trail).

Greg Gaudet, Summerside's municipal services director, said acquiring the three types of paint required to make the 3D effect possible will cost slightly more than standard crosswalks.

"The real cost is time. It just takes a lot longer to do one."

It'll take a full day's work to paint each crosswalk, but the project will still be well within budget, Gaudet said.
