ORWELL, P.E.I. — There will be a free workshop on pruning trees and shrubs on Saturday, May 18.
The Macphail Woods Ecological Forestry Project is hosting the workshop at the Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead in Orwell.
It will be of interest to all those who work with and enjoy woody plants. Proper pruning maintains and improves the health and value of plants, whether in a watershed, a private woodlot, a commercial forest or just around the home.
The workshop starts at 10 a.m. in the Nature Centre with a presentation on proper pruning practices and a discussion on tools and publications. There will be a hands-on demonstration where participants can prune trees and shrubs of different species and ages.
Participants should bring suitable weather gear, their favourite pruning tools (if available) and be ready to share their experiences with others.
The native plant nursery is also open Thursday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
