KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — The Heart of the Island initiative is asking the town of Kensington to share the cost of some decorative banners for nine poles.
The request came at the June 8 town council meeting. It was the initiative’s second attempt at the banners, after the Heart of the Island came up with funding for 40 per cent of the cost.
The vinyl banners will show images of the town and activities alongside the Heart of the Island branding.
Coun. Jeff Spencer was against the banners when the initiative first asked for the town to foot the entire bill.
“I had voted against this at the last meeting when we discussed it because I wasn’t sure about spending the money right now,” said Spencer.
“Now with 40 per cent of it being funded and hoping to maybe draw some tourism, some Island tourism, to our area, I’ll make a motion that we move ahead and support the project.”
Council voted to spend $4,138 for nine pairs of Heart of the Island banners. One councillor abstained due to conflict of interest.
