KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — The Town of Kensington's annual Christmas parade, set for Dec. 6 at 5 p.m., is following a different format this year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Parade entries will be assigned parking spots on Gerald McCarville Drive and Park Road in the town's industrial park. The public will be able to view the floats and displays by turning onto Gerald McCarville Drive and progressing through Park Road.
“The public won’t be driving in around the floats; they will be driving by on the road. It's a reverse parade," said Mayor Rowan Caseley.
Credit Union Centre manager Robert Wood and the Kensington Lions Club are organizing this year’s event.
“It will be one-way traffic (through the Industrial Park), and Santa Claus will be at the end to accept letters,” said Wood. “Members of the Lions club will go to the cars, give out a treat bag and pick up any letters for Santa.”
Town councillors will be accepting food donations in support of the Kensington Lions Club Food Drive.
The town’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place at the gazebo by the old Kensington train station following the parade. With limited attendance due to COVID-19, Wood confirmed the ceremony will be available on Facebook Live for the public.
