SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Summerside Police Services has named Knox Beairsto-Whitlock as the child who died in hospital Aug. 19.

Police believe Knox was injured on Aug. 16 in Summerside. Because of the seriousness of his injuries, he was airlifted to a hospital in Halifax the next day.

Police were alerted to the incident by Child Protection Services on Aug. 18.

An autopsy was completed, and the major crime unit of the Summerside Police Services is investigating the circumstances around the injuries the boy received.

Police expect this will be a lengthy investigation and are continuing to ask that anyone with any information contact Summerside Police Services at 902-432-1201 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Editor's note: A previous version of this story said police were notified of the death on Aug. 25. Police were notified on Aug. 18. We regret the error.
