GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A judge told a P.E.I. man he is “pretty lucky’’ to have dodged serious harm after losing control of his vehicle while driving drunk.
Randal James Holland, 57, of Souris recently pleaded guilty in provincial court in Georgetown to having a blood alcohol concentration that was equal to or exceeded 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood within two hours after ceasing to operate a conveyance.
Police responded to a call of a single vehicle accident on April 16 in Souris.
The vehicle, which was driven by Holland, had crossed the oncoming lane and ended up in some bushes.
Police observed a contusion above Holland’s eye and noted the man’s speech was slurred.
Holland registered blood alcohol readings twice the legal limit.
He has prior impaired driving convictions dating back to 1991 and 1996.
Chief Judge Nancy Orr sentenced Holland to 15 days in jail.
She also fined him $2,000 and ordered him to pay $600 into the victim of crime fund.
Holland is prohibited from driving for one year from the time he is released from jail.
