On the one-year anniversary of the Fredericton shooting, a statement by local police recognized the compassion shown by Fredericton residents in the wake of the tragedy.
On August 10, 2018, Donnie Robichaud, 42, and Bobbi-Lee Wright, 32, were killed by a gunman. Two police officers who responded to the shooting, Cst. Robb Costello, 45, and Sara Burns, 43, were also killed.
"We were shaken, but we will not let this break us. The community has rallied together like we have never seen before. Your collective arms wrapped around us as we grieved the loss of our friends and colleagues, and worked to adapt to our new normal," read a statement issued by the Fredericton Police Force on Saturday.
"Without the incredible showing of compassion, support and kindness that you have shown us since August 10, 2018, we would not have been able to heal as we have."
Police later apprehended 48-year old Matthew Vincent Raymond. Raymond has been charged with four counts of first degree murder.
Raymond is slated to stand trial on September 30 in Fredericton.
A press conference marking the anniversary of the Fredericton shooting is planned for Saturday.
