ALBANY, P.E.I. — A tractor trailer hauling 60,000 pounds of potatoes overturned Wednesday in Albany, as it came down the exit ramp from Route 1 to Route 1A.
"Speed was not a factor," said the driver, who was not injured and did not want his name used.
The man said the roads were snow-covered and there was ice underneath when he was travelling, around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
East Prince RCMP reported the Route 1 Borden entrance to the Albany Y interchange was closed until further notice around 1 p.m. as the clean-up occurred.
The tractor-trailer driver worked with staff from the nearby Albany wash plant to unload the trailer, which lay on its side in the grass.
It took most of the morning to arrange for the equipment needed to move the spuds, including a large generator, belts and two loaders.
Route 1A remained open in both directions. The exit was expected to re-open later on Wednesday.
