SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A 49-year-old Summerside man will spend around three months in jail on charges from New Brunswick and P.E.I.

Farran Bruce Reeves pleaded guilty recently in Summerside provincial court to failing to stop for police and driving while disqualified in a July 15 incident in Summerside.  

Judge Krista MacKay sentenced Reeves to 90 days in jail for failing to stop and 15 days for driving while prohibited, to be served concurrently. 

Reeves will also be prohibited from driving for another three years upon his release.

Reeves was also sentenced in Summerside on property charges from New Brunswick.

Reeves was also sentenced to 300 days in jail for a break and enter and theft charge from Cap Pele, N.B. He was given 211 days credit. Judge MacKay also sentenced Reeves to 60 days for motor vehicle theft and 60 days for possession of a stolen license plate, to be served concurrently. Reves will also serve 45 days concurrently for violating the conditions of a 2018 probation order when he failed to “keep the peace and be of good behaviour.” A charge for failing to appear in court was stayed. 

Reeves must submit a DNA sample to the National DNA Databank and is prohibited from owning weapons for 10 years.


Summerside man heads to jail for impaired driving

A Summerside man will spend three days in jail for impaired driving.

Brian Daniel Brooks, 36, pleaded guilty recently in Summerside provincial court to being impaired within two hours of operating a vehicle. The charge is from Nov. 13.  

In addition to jail, Brooks was fined $1,500 and must pay $450 in victim surcharges. He will also be prohibited from driving for 12 months. 


Egmont Bay man jailed for assaulting woman

A 43-year-old Egmont Bay man will spend a month in jail for assaulting a woman in Kensington on Dec. 20.

Jamie Leandre Levenshulme, 43, pleaded guilty recently in Summerside provincial court to assault and to breaching an undertaking after he tried to contact the woman 10 days later.

Judge Krista MacKay sentenced Levenshulme to 30 days in jail. She handed down 10 days for breaching the undertaking to be served concurrently. 

Levenshulme must also pay $200 in victim surcharges and will be on probation for 18 months. 


Knutsford resident caught driving impaired heading to jail

A 21-year-old Knutsford resident was pulled over in Woodstock on Nov. 30. 

Bailey Rodney Smallman pleaded guilty recently in Summerside provincial court to being impaired within two hours of driving. 

Judge Krista MacKay sentenced Smallman to jail and a $1,500 fine. Smallman must also pay $450 in victim surcharges and will be prohibited from driving for 12 months.


Illegal lobster traps dealt with in Summerside court 

Thirteen people pleaded guilty recently in Summerside provincial court to having lobster traps on board fishing vessels out of season. 

Each of the accused was fined $500 and all are prohibited from fishing for the first hour of the 2021 lobster fishing season in Lobster Fishing Area (LFA) 24.

The charges, which are contrary to the Fisheries Act, were laid by the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans in the Northport Harbour area.

The accused include:

  • Terrence Gavin, 57, of Alberton
  • Benjamin W. Gavin, 57, of Alberton
  • Katie Hutt, 33, of Alberton
  • Gordon James Rayner, 58, of Alberton
