A 28-year-old Stratford woman and a 38-year-old Charlottetown man have been arrested and charged following an unusual impaired driving call in Summerside last Friday.

Summerside Police Services reported recently that it received multiple calls about a Ford Escape SUV being driven erratically, driving into oncoming traffic and forcing other cars off the road. It was reported to be in the Water Street east and Granville Street areas of Summerside, around 8:30 a.m.

Police found the suspect vehicle at a Linden Avenue parking lot.

Officers spoke to a woman in the SUV who said she was the driver. Officers thought she may have been drunk, so she was arrested.

However, after more investigation, police decided to also charge a man in the vehicle with impaired driving plus refusing a demand from police for a breath test, as they suspect he was the actual driver.

Police allege he displayed signs of impairment by drugs and he later refused to be examined by a drug recognition expert.

He was later turned over to the Charlottetown Police who had a warrant for his arrest.

The woman is facing a charge of obstructing police and will appear in court at a later date.
