Weather

It will be cloudy across P.E.I. today with a high of -6 C, but with wind chill, it will feel like -20 C in the morning.

Tonight, snow will begin before morning with winds gusting up to 40 km/h this evening and up to 60 km/h overnight.

The temperature is expected to rise to -1 C by morning, with a wind chill near -14 C.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT: Rain, snow and high winds expected beginning Wednesday morning.

A low pressure system approaching from the west will move into the region on Wednesday. It will then slowly track northeastward to lie north of Prince Edward Island by Thursday evening.

Snow ahead of this system will begin in the early morning hours of Wednesday before changing to rain by Wednesday afternoon.

Close to 10 centimetres of snow is currently expected with southeasterly winds gusting up to 80 km/h.

The heaviest snowfall rates are expected in the morning hours of Wednesday.

These anticipated heavier snowfall rates combined with increasing southeasterly winds could generate poor driving conditions during the morning commuting hours on Wednesday.

Conditions are expected to improve Wednesday night.

Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation and warnings may be issued as new information becomes available.
