It will be a cold day across P.E.I. today. Flurries with the risk of snow squalls are expected, with blowing snow over exposed areas amounting to 5 cm in the heaviest flurries. Northwest winds will gust up to 60 km an hour. Today’s high will be -8 C, but with the wind chill, it will feel like -19 C.
The flurries are expected to end before morning, when it will become partly cloudy. Snowfall amount of 2 cm is expected in the heaviest flurries, with northwest winds gusting up to 50 km/h becoming light overnight. Tonight’s low will be -14 C, but with wind chill, it will feel like -22 C.
SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT: Messy weather is expected Friday night.
A developing low-pressure system is forecast to track eastward across southern Quebec Friday, then pass just north of the Maritimes on Saturday.
Snow from this system is expected to begin over Prince Edward Island Friday afternoon, then change through ice pellets or freezing rain to rain Friday evening before diminishing to scattered showers Saturday morning.
Temperatures are expected to rise well above the freezing mark overnight Friday in fairly strong southerly winds.
Although current guidance does not indicate that weather warnings are likely for the province from this event, it is possible that its forecast timing and strength may change.
Driving conditions may become treacherous Friday evening in the mixed precipitation.
