CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Members of the RCMP dive team in New Brunswick have been called to help assist with the ongoing search for a man who jumped off the Hillsborough Bridge and into the water on Christmas Day.

Witnesses told police the man exited his parked vehicle and jumped into the water around 8:30 p.m.

At the time, a storm surge and wind warning were in effect for the area. Winds were expected to reach gusts of 100 km/h near coastal areas.

As of noon on Dec. 26 the man had not been located.

The dive team was unable to arrive on the Island Monday night due to bad weather, and representatives from the Queens District RCMP had no information about when the team is expected to land.

The Guardian will have more on this story as it develops.
