CORNWALL, P.E.I. - Queens District RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a vehicle or the driver involved in an accident that occurred last month in Cornwall.
On Dec. 18 at about 5:30 p.m., the RCMP was dispatched to a hit-and-run collision on the Trans-Canada Highway in Cornwall, just east of Clyde River.
The driver of a gold coloured 4-door sedan - possibly a Lincoln model year 2005-2010 - which was travelling east, lost control in very poor road conditions and struck a vehicle coming from the other direction. This caused the sedan to hit a bank of snow at the side of the road.
Shortly before this collision, the gold sedan in question passed another vehicle in a dangerous manner.
The passengers of the vehicle that had been passed stopped at the collision and briefly spoke to the driver of the sedan.
The driver of the sedan then got out of his vehicle, looked at the damages, removed a part of his bumper, got back into his vehicle and drove away. He did not provide his name or vehicle information to the driver of the vehicle he struck.
The driver is described as being between six feet and six-foot-two and possibly of Middle Eastern descent.
The witnesses said the male driver did not appear to speak English very well.
It is possible the driver did not realize he struck another vehicle and may think the damages occurred when he hit the snow bank.
The vehicle sustained damage to the rear passenger side and bumper with pieces of the bumper being left behind.
The plate on the vehicle is believed to be from P.E.I. but a number was not obtained.
RCMP officers would like to speak with the driver of this vehicle and is asking for the public's assistance in identifying either the vehicle or the person in question.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP at 902-368-9300 or information can be reported anonymously through Crime Stoppers at peicrimestoppers.com or 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
