The Liberal Party of P.E.I. is proposing a new, $2-million community grants and action fund as part of its election campaign promises announced during National Volunteer Week.
The fund would be set up for non-governmental organizations assisting Islanders in need and would seek to advance objectives outlined in the province’s 2018 Poverty Reduction Action plan.
“The Liberal party understands and values the contributions made by the community sector and its volunteers here on P.E.I., and is proud of the close collaboration that has been fostered between this sector and government,” said Liberal Leader Wade MacLauchlan, who is seeking re-election.
The Liberal party is also proposing to start a $250,000 volunteer enhancement program, as well as to add $100,000 to Medical First Responder program for volunteer fire departments through $100,000 in new supports including training, equipment and supplies.
“Islanders have been doing their part as volunteers in their communities, rinks, schools and hospitals – and we will continue to support these efforts,” MacLauchlan said. “The Liberal party believes that investments in the community sector are smart investments that produce effective and important outcomes.”
