O’LEARY, P.E.I. - Mayor Eric Gavin has appointed Darren MacKinnon as deputy mayor and finance committee chairman in the Town of O’Leary.

Gavin and MacKinnon are the only members of the old council returning to the table. Joey Dumville, who resigned from council in May, is back at the table and Gavin has returned him to his former position as recreation committee chairman.
There are four first-time councilors in the chamber.

Valene Gallant has been handed responsibility for the streets, sidewalks and streetlights committee, while Kevin Maynard chairs a town properties committee. Judy MacIsaac takes responsibility for a newcomers committee and will represent council on a health board recruitment committee, while Coun. Darrell Wood gets fire department and police.

MacIsaac and MacKinnon will co-chair a human resources committee.

Mayor Gavin said he will chair the sanitation committee and will chair community development. He advised his councilors, though, that he wants all council members to share responsibility for community development.
