In her own words

I am a self-taught lifestyle & fashion illustrator that is currently based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Before that, I was in Ontario, B.C., and Singapore (many, many, years ago).

Initially, I started with digital illustrations on my iPad then branched out to watercolour, pencil and acrylic mediums. I’m inspired by fashion, food & travel, and my artwork is a visual representation of that! I have also been working on my craft for over five years now, with a focus on fashion illustration. You can usually find me illustrating and hand lettering for my print shop, or snapping pictures wherever in the world I might be. And when I’m not doing that, I’m either cooking, baking, exercising or spending time with my family!

What makes you proud to say you live in Atlantic Canada?

The fact that I live by the ocean again! I grew up in BC, so I’m a coastal girl and love being by the water!

What inspires your creative process? Any number of things!

People, places, things. Each and every time I step out the door into the world, I can find inspiration. But usually, once I get started with what I like to call a “warm-up sketch”, the process starts to flow nicely.

What do you hope your legacy will be?

I hope that I inspire people to pick up that pencil, paintbrush or whatever tool they feel comfortable with to start their creative process. Being creative doesn’t have to be complicated — at least that’s what I always like to say!

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received so far?

It’s better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. In other words, just go for it.

What is a common misconception about millennials that you disagree with? Why?

It seems like every so often, someone or something is coming out with misconceptions about millennials. I see our age group as a group of movers and shakers. People who are creating things, businesses, opportunities that the world is in need of right now.

What does self-care or wellness mean for you?

Taking time to stop and just breathe. Self-care can be very simple. That’s the way that I like to view it.

What’s one thing that scares you?

Not being able to create art.

What’s your favourite way to support local?

Connecting with other local makers, creators & creatives. Attending different events, markets, pop-ups, etc. not just as a vendor, but as a customer too!

Will whine about: ____ (what’s an issue you’re rallying behind)

  • There seem to be so many people in need in so many ways. Sometimes I wish that I could clone myself and volunteer for the different causes that I feel drawn to.

Will wine about: _____ (favourite libation)

  • It’s not alcoholic, but right now that would have to be Propeller Ginger Beer! I can’t get enough of it!
