News on the future of the Charlottetown Fire Department should be coming not too far into the new year.

Coun. Terry MacLeod, who represents residents in the Sherwood neighbourhood, asked Coun. Kevin Ramsay, former chairman of the advanced planning, priorities and special projects committee, at the December public meeting about the future of Station 2 in Sherwood.

In 2017, the city spent almost $900,000 to purchase a piece of property in the neighbourhood of West Royalty with plans to build a new fire station that would replace Station 2.

Since then, some members of council have fought hard to have Station 2 remain open and see the city open a third fire hall. That plan would come with extra costs to the city.

At the December meeting, Ramsay said all of the necessary reports on the fire station plans are complete and will soon be presented to council.
