Weather

There will be a mix of sun and cloud across the Island today, with a 30 per cent chance of flurries early this morning, with snow beginning this afternoon. Today’s high is -7 C, but with wind chill, it will feel like -23 C in the morning and -12 C in the afternoon.

The snow will change through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain after midnight, with fog patches developing before morning.

Snow and ice pellet amounting to between five and 10 cm are expected, with rainfall amounts of five to 10 mm to follow. Southeast winds will gust around 60 km/h near midnight.

This evening’s temperature with wind chill will be -13 C, but the temperature is expected to rise 4 C by morning.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT: Snow changing to rain with milder temperatures expected tonight.
A developing low-pressure system is forecast to track eastward across southern Quebec today, then pass just north of the Maritimes on Saturday.

Snow from this system is expected to begin over the P.E.I. this afternoon, then change through ice pellets and freezing rain to rain tonight before diminishing to scattered showers Saturday morning.

Before the weather changeover, between five cm and 10 cm of snow is expected.

Temperatures are expected to rise well above freezing overnight tonight in fairly strong southerly winds.
