NORTHPORT, P.E.I. - A recount will be needed to determine the official outcome, but election night results in Northport has Suzanne Matthews as the rural municipality’s top vote-getter. Unofficial results has her getting the nod of 51 voters.

There were seven candidates for the six council seats. Incumbent mayor Wendy McNeill was returned as mayor by acclamation.

If current numbers stand, McNeill’s council will consist of Matthews, Kirk Ramsay who received 49 votes, Carrie Quinn (44), Milton Drummond (43), Lisa Fraser (42) and Randy McNeill (41).

Maxine Osmond finished seventh with 34 votes and, unless a recount changes the outcome, she will not be joining council. Municipal Government Act rules trigger an automatic recount if less than 10 votes separate a candidate from a seat on council.
