CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – A P.E.I. man who was leaving a movie theatre in Charlottetown when he grabbed a stranger’s buttock was sentenced Monday to seven days in jail.
Antonio Stephen Dulisse, 19, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to one count of assault.
The court heard that on April 27, Dulisse was leaving Cineplex Cinemas Charlottetown and was walking behind the victim who was a stranger to him.
Dulisse then grabbed the woman’s buttock.
Crown attorney Jeff MacDonald said when the police arrested him, Dulisse appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Defence lawyer Yolande Murphy said Dulisse couldn’t provide an explanation for his actions because he was significantly intoxicated and couldn’t remember the incident.
Murphy said Dulisse wants to get control of his drinking and has been seeking treatment.
Before sentencing Dulisse, Orr said when people go to a movie they don’t expect to get assaulted by someone so drunk they don’t remember the incident.
Dulisse will serve his sentence on weekends and will be on probation for one year after his release.
He must also write an apology letter to the victim and is banned from the movie theatre during his probation.
He must also pay a $100 victim surcharge.
