CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. woman who admitted to police she was driving under the influence after they pulled her over was sentenced recently to 10 days in jail.
Julie Lynn Gaudet, 39, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to impaired driving.
The court heard the RCMP stopped Gaudet on June 30 after seeing her cut in front of another vehicle and failing to stop at several stop signs.
Gaudet admitted to police she was under the influence of several drugs and she later failed tests used to determine if she was impaired.
Her lawyer told the court the drugs were primarily prescribed medications.
Gaudet had two prior drunk driving convictions.
During her most recent appearance, Gaudet told the court she thought community service would be a better option than time in custody so she could give back to the community.
Douglas said that wouldn’t be appropriate given her record and the offence.
Along with the jail time, Gaudet will be on probation for nine months and must perform 10 hours of community service.
She is banned from driving for one year.
