A Stratford woman who breached her probation by not reporting as required was recently given a suspended sentence.

Jamie Lynn Gill, 34, appeared before Chief Judge Jeff Lantz in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty to breaching her probation.

The court heard Gill was on probation from a prior offence but failed to report as required.

Defence lawyer Alex Dalton told the court Gill was on the methadone program and spent time in hospital in the fall because she needed a cornea transplant.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, there have been ongoing issues with a lack of available beds at the Provincial Correctional Centre.

Lantz said he would give Gill a break and wasn’t going to use up a bed at the jail when there were more pressing matters with other offenders coming up in P.E.I.’s courts in the week following her sentencing.

With the suspended sentence, Gill will be on probation for one year.
