CENTRAL BEDEQUE - A woman was attacked with a metal rod on the side of the road late Friday night.

Cpl. Lisa Jones with the Prince District RCMP said they were contacted at 11:14 p.m. on Jan. 31. The survivor reported to them that she was attacked around 10 p.m., Jones said.

According to Jones, the woman was driving along Route 10 in Central Bedeque and pulled over because her engine light came on. She exited her car to check on it.

“Another car approached her, and that guy tried to rob her,” Jones said.

The assailant asked for her wallet, but she refused. At some point, he attacked her with a metal rod, which was described as pipe-like.

When another car approached the scene, the assailant got in his car and fled. The woman then called her boyfriend and went to the hospital, where Jones said she had cuts on her face and her hands.

The RCMP’s investigation into the attack is still ongoing. They have checked with the Confederation Bridge to see its surveillance tapes from Friday night.

“It’s possible (the assailant) left the Island, but I can’t say,” Jones said. “We’re still trying to identify this car and this person.”

Based on their investigation, Jones doesn’t think the assailant poses a threat to the public at this time.

“It just seems like a random thing.”
