CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A P.E.I. woman who assaulted a worker while she was a patient at the Hillsborough Hospital will be back in court next month for sentencing.
Amy Elizabeth Mason, 24, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown Dec. 31 where she pleaded guilty to two counts of assault.
The court heard Mason was living in a small-options home, which is a house for people who need more intensive supports than in a group home, when she committed the first assault on Sept. 8.
Mason punched another resident in the face and told staff at the home she had thoughts of killing her father.
On Sept. 15, Mason was in the Hillsborough Hospital when she assaulted a staff member who opened the door to her room.
The court heard Mason hit the worker in the head five or six times.
It was not the first time Mason was in court for assaulting an employee at the Hillsborough Hospital.
She was previously a resident at the mental health facility for several years and when she started appearing before the courts in 2015 she was under the guardianship of P.E.I.’s public guardian office.
Mason will be back in court on Jan. 21 for sentencing.
